About us

I created Spade and Sparrow back in 2012 after deciding that tree surgery wasn't for me. I spent most days helping to cut down trees when what I wanted to be doing was growing plants and creating beautiful gardens. For me gardening is about having a vision or a dream and working diligently to bring it about; it is about perceiving the whole gestalt of the garden and developing and nurturing it over time.

On a personal level I love a good project and have ambition to see just what can be done to a garden. I like to problem solve and create original ideas; but I also love to collaborate with clients. Sometimes we have clients coming out and working alongside us. The more the merrier.

We are interested in many different aspects of gardening including designing; planting; building structures - ponds, raised beds, compost bins etc.; laying lawns and I love any excuse to climb up a tree and look down at all the neighbouring gardens.

Customer service is of paramount importance to us and we always work hard to satisfy every client, rectifying any mistake or dissatisfaction as quickly as possible.

We employ a number of young apprentices all of whom I know personally and train to my own high standards. Spade and Sparrow is proud to support fair wages for young people.
